In this energetic role, you will be responsible for translating complex medical information into standardized codes, facilitating seamless insurance claims processing, and maintaining precise medical records. Duties
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriateICD-10 diagnosis codes, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) procedure codes, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications.
- Ensure all coding aligns with current regulations and guidelines to maximize reimbursement and compliance.
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring timely processing.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices while maintaining professionalism.
- Maintain comprehensive and organized medical records, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to privacy laws.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or resolve coding discrepancies promptly.
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, including ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding updates, and relevant billing regulations.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical coding and billing within a healthcare setting, with familiarity using EMR/EHR systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures to accurately interpret medical records.
- Knowledge of medical coding standards such as ICD (International Classification of Diseases), CPT, DRG classifications, and their application in billing processes.
- Experience with medical collection procedures and resolving insurance claim issues effectively.
- Prior work in a medical office environment is preferred; certification such as CPC (Certified Professional Coder) is a plus but not mandatory.
