Job Overview
Tali's Bagels & Schmear is seeking an experienced baker to join our team! In this role, you will be responsible for boiling and baking our award-winning bagels and bialys, as well as prep breakfast dishes. Every morning we bake off hundreds of bagels the traditional way - boiling in a steam kettle and baking on cedar planks - it's a long process, but we don't take any short cuts so that we can provide customers with a true, chewy and crispy NY-style bagel. This job is not for the faint of heart, but once you master it, it's a rewarding and unique experience (we are the only ones on island that bake bagels the traditional way!) and you can be proud to say you make award-winning bagels!
Responsibilities
- Boil and bake bagels
- Prep and bake bialys
- Prep simple breakfast items in large batches (scrambled eggs, bacon)
- Maintain strict food safety standards by following proper handling procedures and sanitation practices
- Assist in packing bagels and breakfast foods in containers for delivery to shops
- Clean equipment, wash dishes, and clean kitchen area at end of shift
Experience
- Proven culinary experience in food production, baking, or pastry arts with a focus on high-volume environments
- Solid knowledge of food safety management practices and proper food handling procedures
- Experience working in kitchens within the food industry, including catering or restaurant settings
- Previous roles requiring the ability to multi-task, work efficiently under pressure, and excel in time management so that all foods and baked goods are finished in time to be packed and delivered to shops
- Must be able to take direction well and work independently
This position will start as a part-time role with the opportunity to become a full-time baker. Training starts at $18/hour and will increase after employee review.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
