We are seeking two Transmissions Instructors to provide advanced RF transmission and satellite communications training to Department of Defense personnel at a Joint Communications facility located at MacDill AFB in Tampa, Florida.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with RF transmission, satellite communications, tactical communications equipment, and iDirect platforms, combined with formal instructional training or significant teaching experience.
This is a full-time, on-site position. Remote work is not available except during government-directed facility closures.
Responsibilities
- Research, develop, maintain, and update course materials covering RF transmission and satellite communications systems.
- Conduct classroom, laboratory, and field instruction for Basic and Advanced RF Transmissions courses.
- Deliver two-week RF Transmissions courses approximately 7-10 times per year.
- Provide instruction on satellite communications systems, including iDirect platforms.
- Develop lesson plans using government-provided templates.
- Provide complete lesson materials within 10 working days of the scheduled class.
- Provide instructor feedback to the government within seven working days following completion of instruction.
- Conduct practical exercises utilizing government-furnished tactical transmission equipment.
- Adjust instructional methods based on student learning needs, equipment availability, and equipment malfunctions.
- Maintain professional classroom decorum and report student absences and tardiness.
- Ensure teaching supplies, transmission equipment, laboratories, and training areas are available and operational.
- Coordinate with other instructors to standardize lessons and instructional delivery.
- Evaluate student performance through hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in satellite communications systems and iDirect.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet at least one of the following qualification paths:
Certification Path
- Current CCNP, MCSA, or equivalent certification.
- DoD compliance requirements for advanced administrative privileged access to network components and devices.
OR
Experience Path
- Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in RF transmissions and/or satellite communications.
OR
Education Path
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
All candidates must also meet the following requirements:
- Active Secret security clearance or higher. Clearance must be current and maintained throughout employment.
- Formal instructor or teaching education OR at least three consecutive years of teaching experience.
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in satellite communications systems and iDirect.
- Ability to work on-site at MacDill AFB Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with military SATCOM systems, including VSAT and tactical satellite terminals.
- Previous military communications MOS, AFSC, or equivalent experience, such as 25S, 1C3X1, or comparable communications specialties.
- Experience with antenna systems.
- Knowledge of RF propagation.
- Experience performing or teaching link budget analysis.
- iDirect certification or extensive hands-on iDirect operational experience.
- Experience working in field or tactical training environments.
Training Environment
- Typical classroom size: 5-16 students.
- Classroom, laboratory, hands-on, and field-based instruction.
- Full-time position with approximately 1,920 hours annually.
- No telework except during government-directed facility closures.
