Mental Health Therapist

The Mental Health Therapist is responsible to provide diagnostic assessments, therapy, and counseling and support services for a mixed caseload including adults, adolescents, and families experiencing mental health issues, communication challenges, or family conflict. The incumbent will have the opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team, providing services to a broad spectrum of clients in addition, the incumbent will also be made familiar with other services and programs in the community and work closely with them to provide information and support when required.

- Main Duties/Tasks
- Administer direct care of clients in treating disorders of the mind, including listening; counseling; tracking progress, and developing treatment planning.
- Conduct assessment and diagnosis.
- Administer Psychotherapy.
- Maintain therapeutic notes and utilization review.
- Conduct brief group and solution-focused therapy.
- Make referral for alcoholism and substance abuse treatment and care.
- Facilitate psycho-educational and prevention programs.
- Facilitate crisis management of clients.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the counseling program initiated and the clients’ progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives.
- Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.
- Submit billing and other related paperwork in a timely fashion.

- Selects appropriate comprehensive assessment interventions to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Screens for addiction, aggression, and danger to self and/or others, as well as co-occurring disorders.
- Writes clear and complete case history.
- Ability to interpret test results and integrate those results into counseling in a meaningful way.
- Makes referral for testing when appropriate.
- Prevention and Intervention
- Demonstrates the ability to use procedures for assessing and managing suicide risk.
- Uses the principles and practices of diagnosis, treatment, referral, and prevention of mental and emotional disorders to initiate, maintain, and terminate counseling.
- Diagnosis
- Demonstrates appropriate use of diagnostic tools to describe the symptoms and clinical presentation of clients with mental and emotional impairments.
- Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology.
- Must maintain professional licensure and/or certification throughout employment with the clinic.
- Five years of experience providing diagnostic assessment and therapy services to a full range of individuals from youth to adulthood, addressing a wide variety of problems and disorders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word and Excel)
