General Statement of Duties and Distinguishing Features of Class
The Fitness & Health Coordinator will assist in developing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating assigned programming and team members with the City of Mason’s Parks and Recreation Department and other duties as assigned. The position is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of each patron in the facilities and services at the Mason Community Center. This position will be under the direction of a Program Manager or designee.
Examples of Work (Illustrative Only)
- Responsible for the development, planning, execution, and evaluation of the fitness & health programming under the direction of the Program Manager or designee.
- Coordinate the scheduling of group exercise classes at Mason Community Center. This includes making determinations on what classes to run and when as well as scheduling and evaluating instructors. The coordinator will also maintain the online group exercise schedule.
- Inspects assigned areas for cleanliness, safety, maintenance, repair, and efficiency of operations.
- Maintains an inventory of group exercise classes equipment which includes assuring proper storage of equipment, reporting necessary repairs and maintenance as well as recommending new equipment and supplies need to be ordered as replenishment, replacement or as a new addition to the facility.
- Prepare evaluations on group exercise classes and programming to determine what activities need to be canceled, modified or added.
- Creates quarterly programming for Fitness & Health to be prepared for CenterPoint.
- Will become proficient in using the facility’s RecTrac software used for registering participants and to obtain financial reports for program evaluations.
- Maintains a positive and approachable composure to promote patron-employee interaction.
- Lead or attend in-service training sessions and/or staff meetings as requested.
- Upholds the policies and procedures of the City of Mason and the Parks & Recreation Department.
- Displays knowledge of the department’s Infectious Material & Exposure Incident Policy and facility Emergency Action Procedures.
- Administer and record any necessary first aid/victim care within the level of emergency training.
- Demonstrates knowledge of all emergency procedures throughout the recreational areas.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: The following is preferred.
- Ability to work mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
- Experience working with fitness & health programs.
- Acquire and maintain current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR American Red Cross CPR (adult, child, and infant), first aid required.
- Proficient in computers and software programs.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to lift and move objects.
- Good organization and interpersonal communication skills, as well as providing excellent customer service.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
- Work in a fast-paced recreational environment indoors and outdoors at times.
- Frequent walking, standing and ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Stoop, crouch or stand for extended periods.
- Normal visual acuity to see objects up close or at a distance, with or without correction, or with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Auditory acuity to hear pagers, cell phones, telephones, etc. with or without reasonable accommodation.
