Spring Maker / Finisher / Magnaflux Operator
Location: Niles, IL
Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday–Friday | 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Spring Maker / Finisher / Magnaflux Operator to join a growing manufacturing team in Niles, IL. This position is responsible for setting up and operating spring coiling equipment, performing finishing operations, conducting Magnaflux inspections, and ensuring products meet strict quality standards. The ideal candidate has experience working with a variety of metal alloys, precision measuring instruments, and blueprint reading in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Set up and operate bench and floor coiling lathes to manufacture compression, extension, and torsion springs.
- Produce springs from a variety of materials, including steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, and other specialty alloys.
- Select proper mandrels, tooling, gears, and machine speeds to achieve specified spring dimensions, lead, and pitch.
- Perform spring finishing operations, including:
- Grinding
- Cutting
- Trimming
- Truing
- Looping
- Pull-out operations
- Make machine adjustments to maintain close tolerances and ensure product quality.
- Conduct Magnaflux testing and inspections to identify defects in springs and steel components.
- Maintain Magnaflux solutions, inspection records, and quality documentation.
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and manufacturing specifications.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and quality.
- Detect defective materials or unusual production conditions and report findings to supervision.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while following all company safety procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2–3 years of experience in spring manufacturing, metal forming, or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Experience setting up and operating spring coiling equipment.
- Experience performing Magnaflux inspections is highly preferred.
- Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Strong understanding of shop math and manufacturing calculations.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and make machine adjustments independently.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift.
- Frequently lift, move, and handle metal coils and components.
- Perform moderate physical work while completing machine setups and adjustments.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine vibration, grinding dust, heat, and Magnaflux fumes while following required safety procedures.
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
