Duties
- Perform pre-operative patient assessments, including health histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and allergy verification prior to surgery.
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures by providing education, reviewing instructions, and ensuring informed readiness for the perioperative process.
- Initiate and maintain IV access and administer medications as ordered, following safe nursing practice and aseptic technique.
- Monitor patients during post-anesthesia recovery (PACU), assessing airway, pain control, vital signs, and overall recovery status.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition, communicating effectively with anesthesia providers and surgeons.
- Document all patient care, assessments, medications, and recovery progress accurately in the medical record.
- Provide discharge education and instructions to patients and caregivers, ensuring understanding of post-operative care and follow-up.
- Maintain and stock pre-op and PACU supplies, ensuring readiness of patient care areas.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical staff to promote safe, efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care.
- Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards in accordance with facility policies and AAAHC guidelines.
- Provide discharge planning education and coordinate post-operative care instructions tailored to individual patient needs.
- Provide break relief in the operating room as needed, assuming circulating nurse responsibilities during coverage and maintaining patient safety, sterile technique, and accurate documentation.
- Skilled in IV insertion, health assessments, supply management, and patient education, recovery monitoring, and discharge planning.
- Knowledge of anesthesia recovery procedures, airway management, and advanced patient assessment skills.
- Familiarity with plastic surgical procedures, including abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, and face lifts, is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, adapt to changing patient and surgical schedules, and collaborate effectively with the surgical team.
- Ability to multitask and maintain effeciency while ensuring patient safety and quality care.
- Excellent communication skills for assessments, family education, case management, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
