Thank you for stopping by to take a look at the Verkada Architect role I posted here on Indeed, I appreciate it. Before we go further, just a couple quick things. I am an actual live human writing this. So, no bots, no AI...just a guy trying to do his best (I also like to add some humor to these things...life is too short not to chuckle now and again). I say this because, let's face it, looking for work is about as fun as a root canal. So, if I can make it less painful, and less 'robotic', I will surely do this.
I am not working with any external vendors or 3rd parties for this role. So, please do not call me 100 times or send 50 emails saying you have an 'ideal candidate'. I am not working with external vendors on this, or any of my other roles.
If you have read my JD's before, you already know this. But, if you are new to them, a couple quick things about me. My name is Tom Welke. I am Partner & VP at RSM Solutions Inc. I have been recruiting technical talent for 24 years and been in the tech space since the 1990s. I don't say this to gloat, bloat or to say I am this great guy. I say this because I don't use AI to screen resumes for roles like this...I actually read resumes for content and context. So, please be patient with me with reviewing resumes...it may take a couple days for me to get back to you.
As with every role I work on, 'social fit' is going to be pretty important. This role is one where you will be working with external customers of this client. So, that 'presence' that relatively high degree of emotional intelligence will be needed for this role. So, in other words, if you can't really talk to people like a normal human...we probably wont have a fit.
I can only work with US Citizens or Green Card Holders for this role. I cannot work with OPT, EAD, H1, F1, STEM or anyone that is not already a US Citizen or Green Card Holder for this role. In addition, I am not working with external vendors or 3rd parties for this role. So, for the love of all that is good and pure, do not call 40 times saying you have a 'great candidate on your bench'.
This is a contract role that will last about 12 months. It may extend, but I don't want to promise that.
Here is what we are looking for in this role:
This role mixes 'strategic advisory' with really solid Verkada skills. As those who know Verkada, you will be working in the physical security (specifically camera surveillance and analysis) space. In this role you will be leading the technical design, deployment planning, configuration, commissioning, and operational handoff of Verkada security camera solutions across a multi-site client environment. This role is responsible for ensuring that each site is designed consistently, installed correctly, configured securely, and commissioned to meet business, physical security, and operational requirements.
The VCE Architect will serve as the primary technical authority for Verkada camera deployments, working with client security teams, IT/network teams, facilities, field technicians, project managers, and managed operations teams. The role requires strong knowledge of Verkada Command, camera placement, network readiness, PoE infrastructure, video retention, permissions, alerting, analytics, and multi-site standardization.
There is a cabling provider that will be working with you for all the installs. So, for this role, we are seeking that individual who knows Verkada Security Camera solutions very very well as they will be guiding the process with the installers as well.
This position is not an installer role. It is an architecture and commissioning role responsible for translating client security objectives into a repeatable deployment model that can scale across locations while maintaining quality, security, documentation, and operational consistency.
Here are some of the main responsibilities (rather than having a zillion of these, I will narrow it down to the key ones):
- Lead Verkada camera architecture and deployment planning. This includes reviewing site requirements, floor plans, security objectives, and camera coverage needs.
- Validate network readiness, including PoE availability, switch capacity, VLAN design, firewall access, and bandwidth considerations.
- Configuration of Verkada Command for sites, buildings, roles, permissions, camera naming standards, and administrative controls.
- Coordination with field technicians, cabling teams, network teams, client security stakeholders, and project management.
- Providing technical direction during camera installation, turn-up, and issue resolution.
- Perform or oversee camera commissioning activities, including: Device onboarding; Firmware and connectivity validation; Live view verification; Recording verification; Image quality adjustment; Field-of-view validation; Motion and analytics validation; Retention configuration; User access validation; and Alert and notification testing.
- Maintain deployment standards across all sites.
Here are the key qualifications for this role:
- 5+ years of experience with physical video surveillance, or IP camera systems. 2+ years of experience specifically with Verkada is a gotta have.
- Active Verkada Certified Engineer certifications. A MUST have is VCE Essentials; and VCE Video Security Specialist Certifications
- Experience with VCE Integrations is strongly preferred. That experience should be in large multi-facility enterprise environments.
- Camera onboarding, site organization, user permissions, alerts, analytics, retention, and troubleshooting.
- Experience deploying Verkada cameras in distributed locations such as stores, offices, branches, warehouses, manufacturing sites, schools, clinics, or mixed-use facilities.
- Experience with IP camera design, field-of-view planning, mounting considerations, indoor and outdoor camera placement, and environmental considerations.
- Experience working with structured cabling, PoE switches, patch panels, network closets, and site infrastructure constraints.
- Experience coordinating deployment activities with field services, electricians, low-voltage providers, facilities teams, and client IT staff.
- Experience developing deployment standards, configuration standards, test plans, and acceptance criteria.
