Responsibilities
- Safely operate trucks-trailers and other commercial vehicles across over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts when necessary, ensuring cargo integrity and safety.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS systems to plan optimal routes while managing delivery schedules across multiple states.
- Transport a variety of cargo including specialty loads like flatbed freight.
- Ensure proper documentation for all shipments, including load manifests, delivery receipts, and compliance with hazardous materials regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety and readiness; report any issues promptly.
- Maintain a professional driving record by practicing safe driving habits and adhering to all FMCSA and DOT regulations throughout each journey.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the type of freight transported.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, especially with tractor-trailers or specialized equipment like flatbeds.
- Demonstrated ability to handle manual transmissions and perform manual handling tasks safely.
- Knowledge of logistics cargo handling procedures for loading/unloading freight efficiently and securely.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems for route planning on long-distance routes across multiple states.
- Ability to comply with all FMCSA, DOT during over-the-road operations.
- Experience with truck loading/unloading procedures including freight handling equipment such as forklifts when applicable.
- Strong driving skills with a clean driving record; previous delivery driver experience is highly valued.
