Job Summary
We are seeking experienced, field‑driven commissioning professionals to join our team supporting active commercial project in NY. This role is ideal for mid‑career candidates who enjoy being on‑site, working directly with building systems, contractors, and project teams to verify systems are installed, tested, and operating as intended.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in Testing & Balancing (T&B), mechanical and/or electrical testing, system start‑up, controls, or building automation, and is comfortable troubleshooting in live construction environments. This position emphasizes field execution, practical problem‑solving, and technical ownership from start‑up through system acceptance.
Duties
- Work primarily in the field assisting the commissioning team with hands‑on evaluation of electrical, mechanical, and building systems in commercial facilities.
- Verify systems are installed, started, tested, and functioning in accordance with design intent, construction documents, and commissioning plans.
- Execute and support field commissioning procedures, including start‑up verification, functional performance testing, and system integration activities.
- Monitor and inspect construction progress on active job sites; participate in or lead on‑site commissioning meetings, walk‑downs, and system reviews.
- Coordinate closely with commissioning engineers, contractors, and trades throughout all project phases, resolving field issues and supporting timely system turnover.
- Collaborate directly with owners, general contractors, and subcontractors to address deficiencies, retesting, and system optimization.
- Perform detailed hands‑on testing and troubleshooting of equipment and systems to confirm performance, reliability, and operational readiness.
- Provide field‑based technical support, guidance, and informal mentoring to team members as needed.
- Maintain clear, professional communication and accurate field documentation to support project closeout.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of relevant field experience in commissioning, construction, or building systems (required).
- Demonstrated hands‑on experience commissioning commercial building systems, including electrical and mechanical systems.
- Comfortable working in active construction environments, including rooftops, mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, and occupied spaces as required.
- Proficiency with computers, tablets, and field documentation software.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including start‑up, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with scripting or controls logic execution for testing or system automation preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, sequences of operation, and system design intent.
- Self‑directed, able to work independently in the field, while coordinating effectively with a broader project team.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering quality work.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills for interaction with site personnel and stakeholders.
