In this vital role, you will operate heavy-duty wrecker trucks to assist with vehicle recoveries, roadside assistance, and heavy-duty towing operations. Duties
- Operate Class A heavy wrecker trucks equipped with hydraulic lifts, winches, and other recovery tools to safely recover disabled or damaged vehicles
- Conduct manual handling of vehicles, including loading, securing, and unloading cargo or wreckage using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or roll-off trucks
- Follow all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations during operations
- Use GPS navigation systems to efficiently plan and execute route driving for timely recovery and transportation assignments
- Load and unload freight, including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and hazardous goods, adhering to safety protocols
- Maintain detailed logs of all recoveries, cargo handling activities, and route information in compliance with safety standards
- Perform routine inspections of wrecker equipment to ensure operational safety and readiness before each shift
Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record
- Proven experience operating heavy-duty trucks such as tractor-trailers, dump trucks, or roll-off trucks in a commercial setting
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT regulations, hazardous materials handling, and dangerous goods transportation
- Skilled in manual transmission operation and manual handling techniques
- Experience with freight handling on various trailer types including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and hazardous materials containers
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems for route planning and execution
- Ability to load & unload cargo efficiently while adhering to safety standards
- Prior delivery driver experience or roadside assistance background is highly desirable
