Security Officer
Position Summary
Provide customer service to patients, visitors, staff, and vendors by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities in a healthcare setting. Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including assisting with de-escalation and contacting appropriate facility personnel and/or emergency responders. Conduct regular and random patrols of hospital buildings, parking areas, entrances, and perimeter areas to help identify and report unusual conditions or unauthorized activity. Monitor access points and visitor activity in accordance with site-specific procedures, providing directions and assistance to patients and visitors as needed. Document incidents, observations, and patrol activities accurately and promptly using required reporting procedures.
- Essential Job Functions:
- Communicates effectively via two-way radio, computer, email, telephone and verbal communication with team members, visitors, and patients and with local law enforcement agencies. Keeps leadership informed.
- Attends meetings, training assigned by leadership to maintain personal growth and development.
- Maintains care for department equipment and supplies.
- Investigates, writes incident reports, and provides patient interventions and use of force reports with complete narrative.
- Provides daily activity logs before the end of shift.
- Is knowledgeable of security sensitive areas.
- Escorts team members, patients and visitors to parking areas.
- Locks/unlocks designated doors.
- Monitors the conduct of hospital visitors.
- Confronts unauthorized people, reports safety concerns, fire hazards and security violations by patrolling the hospital facility.
- Control traffic and enforce parking regulations.
- Maintains parking lot surveillance to assure safety, enforces applicable parking regulations.
- Provides immediate and prompt response to emergency codes.
- Assists with the management of individuals with behavioral issues and provides back up for law enforcement in those situations.
- Maintains a working knowledge of emergency codes and response procedures.
- Responds appropriately and in a timely manner to all emergency situations, as well as activating security alarms.
- Participates in quality improvement projects as assigned or requested. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

- Be at least 19 years of age
Education:
Required:
- High School diploma or GED certificate.
- Preferred: Vocational or Technical College certificate in HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry, or Plumbing trade or comparable journey credential from professional trades unions.
Licenses/Certifications:
Required:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire
Experience:
Preferred:
- Previous security, law enforcement or military experience.
Position Hours Per Day
- Expected work hours up to - 10 Plus Call
