Kindergarten Readiness Assistant
Purpose
The purpose of this position is to support kindergarten students in developing the foundational academic, behavioral, and school-readiness skills necessary for success in the classroom environment. This position assists classroom teachers in creating and maintaining a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement, independence, and readiness to learn.
Performance Responsibilities
This position supports kindergarten classrooms within Title schools. The primary function of an employee in this position is to provide student support related to school readiness, classroom routines, behavior management, and instructional assistance. The position is directly supervised by a teacher, with direction from the building Principal.
Essential Duties

Provide support to kindergarten students during instructional and non-instructional activities

Assist students in developing school-readiness skills, including classroom routines, transitions, organization, self-regulation, and positive social interactions

Support classroom behavior expectations and reinforce positive behavior strategies as directed by the classroom teacher or school staff

Work with students individually, in small groups, or within whole-group classroom settings as designated by the classroom teacher or Principal

Assist teachers with classroom organization, preparation of instructional materials, and implementation of classroom activities

Provide additional student support to help maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment

Encourage student participation, engagement, and independence within the classroom setting

Support effective communication and collaboration among students, teachers, staff, and families as appropriate

Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:

Basic educational procedures and objectives, including instructional support, behavior management, classroom routines, and student-teacher interactions

Early childhood development and age-appropriate practices related to kindergarten students

Positive behavior support strategies and techniques for fostering student engagement and self-regulation

Cultural responsiveness and an understanding of the diverse needs of students and families
Ability to:

Follow written and oral instructions and observe district policies and procedures

Maintain student, school, and parental confidentiality

Operate classroom instructional equipment, standard office equipment, and a personal computer using programs appropriate to assigned duties

Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, teachers and staff members, and other district personnel

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Demonstrate integrity and ingenuity in the performance of assigned tasks
Qualifications
Highly Qualified status required: have 32+ college credits, have a college degree, or pass the Paraprofessional Assessment with a score of 460+.
Essential Physical Abilities

Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal conversation and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person

Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work and assessments, prepare and review documents, and organize documents and materials

Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment, and to occasionally physically restrain a student to keep him/her from harming self or others

Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office environment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 20 lbs.

Must have a valid Idaho driver’s license and a vehicle to drive and/or must provide own transportation for job related activities
Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated by the building principal in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluations.
