We are looking for a full-time Memory Care Activities Director. The pay rate starts at $25/hr. and up, depending on experience and qualifications. We are looking for a candidate with at least 3 years of relevant experience!
About the role
The Memory Care Activities Director creates a vibrant, person-centered life enrichment program that supports residents living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. This role blends creativity with structure, clinical awareness with warmth, and strong coordination with hands-on engagement.
What you will do
- Design and lead a weekly and monthly activities calendar tailored to cognitive abilities, interests, cultures, and life stories.
- Facilitate group and 1:1 programs, including music, art, reminiscence, movement, sensory experiences, cognitive games, spiritual programs, and community outings.
- Build individualized engagement plans for each resident and document participation, preferences, and outcomes.
- Support a calm, safe environment by using dementia-informed communication and de-escalation techniques.
- Coordinate special events such as holiday celebrations, family nights, intergenerational programming, and volunteer-led activities.
- Partner with the care team (nursing, caregivers, therapists, dining, housekeeping, and leadership) to align programming with resident needs and care plans.
- Manage and mentor activity staff and volunteers, including scheduling, training, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Maintain compliance and documentation in alignment with state regulations and community policies.
- Oversee the activities budget and supplies, track inventory, and keep program spaces organized and welcoming.
- Engage families through regular communication, meaningful invitations, and thoughtful follow-up.
What we are looking for
- At least 3 years of relevant experience directing or coordinating activities or life enrichment programs in memory care or a similar senior living healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of dementia care best practices, including person-centered programming and meaningful engagement.
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and lead a full calendar of programs with consistent quality.
- Experience supervising staff and volunteers and collaborating across departments.
- Comfort with documentation, calendars, and basic reporting (electronic or paper).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust with residents, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to lift and move activity supplies and support outings as needed.
Qualifications
- Certification or training in dementia care or activity programming (such as NCCAP ADC or equivalent).
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience partnering with local community organizations and coordinating volunteers.
- Associate's degree
- Experience performing budget analysis, review and control.
- Experience supervising staff.
- Valid driver's license.
