This position is a member of our Sugar Land Laboratory within the Water Quality Planning Division.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Manage the Sugar Land Laboratory within the Water Quality Planning Division of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Manage the daily activities and operations of the section to include assigning workloads and priorities and developing and implementing systems to track laboratory processes and agency performance standards. Ensure resources are appropriately allocated to meet and/or exceed performance measurements and goals within the division.
Oversee laboratory quality systems (including maintenance of necessary National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) accreditations), sample analyses, various technical projects, procedures, and reports; oversee other laboratory operations; and assure efficiency and quality of work products.
Complete and oversee completion of personnel management functions, to include interviewing, hiring and developing staff, performance management, ensuring compliance with EEO/ADA objectives, etc.
Provide technical and programmatic recommendations to management and technical staff regarding lab functions. Prepare management reports, analyses, correspondence, and related materials to keep management informed and to respond to issues. Communicate with management on emerging and significant issues. Consult with internal and external customers concerning lab products, projects, and services.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from an accredited college or university.
Experience supervising professional and/or technical staff, including performing personnel management functions.
Experience performing and/or managing laboratory analyses, quality assurance/quality control activities, and/or laboratory accreditation evaluations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Experience in the management of a business function, division, or department relevant to assignment.
OR
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to assignment.

Work Schedule
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Water Quality Planning Division.
