At Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC), we recognize that emergency nursing requires clinical expertise, critical thinking, compassion, and teamwork. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department team in La Junta.

Position Summary
As an Emergency Room Registered Nurse, you will provide direct and indirect patient care in the emergency setting. This position requires the ability to rapidly assess patient conditions, prioritize care needs, communicate effectively with providers, and respond quickly to changes in patient status. The Emergency Room RN demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and clinical judgment while delivering safe, patient-centered care with minimal supervision.
This is a Part-Time position within our Emergency Department.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Patient Care
- Provide direct patient care and evaluate patient outcomes
- Perform comprehensive head-to-toe assessments and reassessments according to department policy
- Determine patient care priorities based on physical, psychosocial, and clinical needs
- Respond quickly and appropriately to changes in patient condition or treatment response
- Monitor, assess, and manage pain while educating patients and families on pain management strategies
- Monitor hemodynamic status and accurately interpret patient data
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation of assessments, treatments, responses, and patient conditions
Triage & Clinical Assessment
- Accurately assign patient triage categories
- Obtain and document detailed nursing histories, including chief complaints and pertinent health information
- Assess pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients according to age-specific needs
- Utilize critical thinking and clinical judgment to identify patient care priorities
- Interpret assessment findings and implement appropriate nursing interventions
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers regarding changes in patient conditions and diagnostic results
Cardiac & Emergency Interventions
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and identify dysrhythmias
- Implement appropriate interventions related to cardiac monitoring findings
- Administer medications safely and accurately according to physician orders and established protocols
- Prepare, initiate, monitor, and discontinue intravenous therapies
- Assist physicians with emergency department procedures
- Provide emergency interventions as required to stabilize patients
Patient & Family Education
- Treat patients and families with dignity, respect, and compassion
- Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs
- Involve patients and families in the development of the plan of care
- Develop individualized patient teaching plans based on assessed learning needs
- Evaluate the effectiveness of patient and family education
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, administration, and other healthcare providers
Quality & Department Support
- Maintain departmental policies, procedures, and infection prevention standards
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families
- Assist with implementation and monitoring of core measures
- Support cost containment through appropriate use of supplies and equipment
- Participate in quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives
- Assist with orientation and training of new emergency department employees
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) License or Compact RN License
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments and emergency interventions
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced emergency care environment
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism
Preferred
- Six (6) months or more of Emergency Department or acute care Registered Nurse experience
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR)
- Previous emergency or critical care nursing experience
