Duties
- Safely operate commercial trucks with manual transmissions across designated routes, ensuring timely delivery of freight including hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
- Load and unload cargo using manual handling techniques or forklifts, ensuring proper securing of freight such as refrigerated goods, flatbed loads, or tanker contents.
- Navigate using GPS systems to optimize routes and meet delivery schedules while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor-trailer or other vehicle types like dump trucks or roll-off trucks to ensure safety and compliance.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo documentation, and delivery records in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding route changes, delivery updates, or safety concerns during route driving.
- Perform routine maintenance checks and report any mechanical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
Requirements
- Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record; experience operating tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, or dump trucks preferred.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with knowledge of route planning and logistics cargo handling.
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles confidently and safely.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route optimization tools.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for dangerous goods transport.
- Physical ability to handle freight manually or with equipment such as forklifts; capable of load & unload duties efficiently.
- Strong understanding of truck driving safety procedures and compliance standards for commercial drivers.
