American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Roanoke, VA, with ventilator experience required.

Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)

Typical patient ratio is 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4
-
Unit functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, with a bariatric specialty and backup support to the trauma unit
-
Includes 2 beds designated for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
-
Respiratory support modalities in use include CPAP, BiPAP, nasal cannula, and supplemental oxygen
-
Equipment in use includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tools, PICC lines, and MML
-
IV drips managed on unit include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration)

Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting implemented to support Patient Care Tech coverage

Floating required within skillset

Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block

Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract

Epic EMR experience required
-
Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state

Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
-
Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; experience at a hospital with 250+ beds strongly preferred

Strong post-operative patient care experience required
-
Ventilator care experience required, specifically with chronic trach patients
-
Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
-
Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care

Experience managing cardiac drips (no titration required)
-
Familiarity with isolation precautions and PPE protocols

Epic EMR experience required

Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Two professional references required for consideration

Large acute care facility with 700+ licensed beds, designated as a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet facility, and academic teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine

Advanced specialty services include bariatric, trauma, and surgical care

Experience in telemetry, PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown unit settings is applicable to this role

Prior travel experience preferred but not required; first-time travelers with strong experience at a comparable facility will be considered
