Responsibilities
- Deliver individualized direct support services to clients with developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, or behavioral challenges, ensuring their safety and dignity at all times.
- Conduct comprehensive intake assessments and ongoing patient evaluations utilizing medical terminology and ICD coding (ICD-9, ICD-10) to document diagnoses accurately.
- Implement evidence-based therapeutic techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and grief or trauma counseling tailored to each client’s needs.
- Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions incorporating modalities such as art therapy, dance therapy, or social work strategies to promote emotional expression and social skills development.
- Manage crisis situations effectively through crisis intervention and crisis management protocols, ensuring immediate safety and appropriate follow-up care.
- Maintain meticulous medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations while utilizing telehealth platforms for remote counseling when appropriate.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—including psychiatrists, social workers, special educators, and medical professionals—to coordinate case management plans that support client goals.
- Engage in research activities or data collection efforts related to behavioral health outcomes or clinical research projects to enhance service quality.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working with children, individuals with disabilities, or those requiring mental health support in inpatient or outpatient settings.
- Strong knowledge of mental health counseling techniques such as psychotherapeutic modalities including psychodynamic therapy, psychopharmacology basics, and addiction counseling.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), medical documentation standards, and HIPAA compliance is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to perform crisis intervention effectively while managing behavior management strategies in high-pressure situations.
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), PTSD care needs, or gender issues counseling is highly desirable.
- Skills in case management, patient assessment, group therapy facilitation, and behavioral therapy techniques like applied behavior analysis (ABA).
- Excellent communication skills for intake interviews and clinical counseling sessions via telehealth or in-person formats.
