POSITION: Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) – Full-Time/Part-Time/Contract
ROLE OVERVIEW:
Future In Sight is looking for a Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) to be part of our vision rehabilitation team, working one-on-one with individuals who are blind and visually impaired. The COMS will provide Orientation & Mobility (O&M) services, primarily to adults, in varied environments including homes, schools, rehabilitation centers, assisted living facilities, and rural and urban communities throughout New Hampshire.
The ideal candidate will have sufficient experience, confidence, and skills to provide assessments and execute an individualized O&M service plan with minimum supervision.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Adult Services
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage in a comprehensive approach of assessment and instruction which meets the diverse needs and abilities of each client and empowers them to achieve their immediate and lifelong goals.
- Teach independent travel, orientation, and related skills for safe mobility in the home, community, educational and vocational environments including, as appropriate, the use of low vision devices, adaptive equipment and other techniques.
- Apply guided exploration and a problem-solving approach that is customized to the goals and skills of each client.
- Teach methods and strategies including the use of non-visual techniques (auditory and tactual) and visual techniques including the optimization of reliable remaining vision with the goal of developing independence and self-confidence when traveling.
- Cooperates and consults with other vision rehabilitation professionals, family members, other parties, and agencies as appropriate to implement and facilitate the service plan.
- Prepares, maintains, and submits accurate and timely records and reports as they relate to the provision of O&M services and planning.
- Provides consultations, public education and in-service training as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Orientation & Mobility from an Accredited College or University
- ACVREP Certified
- Community-based O&M experience preferred but not required

SCHEDULE:
Full or part-time hours available, flexible schedule with remote working arrangements available. Travel within the state required as services are provided in the homes of clients. Future In Sight HQ is located at 25 Walker Street in Concord, NH. Regular office hours are 8AM-4PM Monday through Friday.
COMPENSATION: $28.00 – $33.00 per hour
