We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our Richmond office.
This position is ideal for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and demonstrates strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills. This position will support an assigned attorney(s) and paralegal staff with all non-billable tasks in a manner consistent with MGC policies, procedures, quality, standards, customer needs and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Receive scanned mail from Charlotte runner. Rename document and save in proper category and drop necessary dockets in ProLaw and email assigned professionals
- Transcribe pleadings, discovery, letters, client reports at attorney’s request
- File/serve necessary pleadings in state court via US Mail and via federal online court system as directed by attorney
- Prepare discovery for responses
- Process invoices
- Schedule depositions, mediations, meetings
- Prepare deposition notices as directed by attorney
- Serve discovery at attorney’s request; prepare standard enclosure letters as needed
- Coordinate travel, conference room reservation, conference calls, etc.
- Review files for closing (confirm with attorney and request final bill)
- Send all outgoing mail request, regular, overnight, certified mail to the Charlotte runner mailbox
- Other non-billing tasks as needed
- Cooperates with co-workers
- Responds politely to internal staff, clients, vendors, etc.
- Works as a member of a team
- Accepts change in a productive manner
- Performs other duties as necessary or assigned
Special skills, knowledge, abilities
- Ability to type 50+ wpm.
- Familiarity with transcription and transcription devices
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate by e-mail and telephone with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact
- Possess excellent organizational skills and pay close attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to gain competence in database management systems
- Must possess ability to take initiative and handle various tasks simultaneously while working efficiently, effectively and independently under minimal supervision
- Must have ability to work in a high-pressure environment
- Is neat with self and conducts self in a respectable, responsible, courteous manner
