Position Summary
Carriage House Mill is seeking an experienced Cabinet Designer to transform client visions into functional, beautiful, and highly detailed cabinetry and millwork solutions. This position combines design creativity with technical expertise, requiring a thorough understanding of residential and commercial cabinetry construction, manufacturing methods, and installation requirements.
The Cabinet Designer serves as the primary design resource during the design and engineering phase, producing accurate drawings, renderings, specifications, and production-ready documentation while maintaining exceptional communication with clients, architects, contractors, and internal departments.
Key ResponsibilitiesClient Design
- Meet with clients to understand project goals, lifestyle needs, aesthetic preferences, and budget.
- Present creative cabinetry and millwork solutions that balance function, appearance, and cost.
- Produce preliminary layouts, design concepts, and presentation drawings.
- Guide clients through finish, material, hardware, and accessory selections.
- Maintain professional communication throughout the design process.
Design Development
- Create detailed cabinet layouts, floor plans, elevations, and 3D renderings.
- Develop cabinetry solutions for kitchens, bathrooms, closets, offices, entertainment spaces, built-ins, commercial interiors, and architectural millwork.
- Verify dimensions and coordinate field measurements.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes and accessibility requirements when required.
Engineering & Production Documentation
- Produce complete shop drawings suitable for client approval and fabrication.
- Create production-ready drawings with accurate dimensions and specifications.
- Develop cut lists, material requirements, hardware schedules, and construction details.
- Coordinate closely with Engineering and Production to ensure efficient manufacturing.
- Revise drawings based on client feedback and internal review comments.
Project Coordination
- Work directly with Project Directors throughout each project.
- Coordinate with architects, interior designers, builders, and homeowners.
- Attend project meetings when necessary.
- Assist with value engineering opportunities without sacrificing design intent.
- Respond promptly to RFIs and design clarification requests.
Quality Control
- Review drawings for accuracy and completeness before release.
- Verify all dimensions, clearances, appliance specifications, and hardware selections.
- Ensure designs meet Carriage House Mill quality standards.
- Minimize production errors through careful documentation.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of cabinetry or architectural millwork design experience.
- Strong understanding of cabinet construction methods.
- Ability to read architectural drawings.
- Excellent spatial reasoning and visualization skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Professional appearance and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing luxury residential cabinetry.
- Experience with commercial architectural millwork.
- Knowledge of AWI construction standards.
- Understanding of woodworking materials, veneers, laminates, hardwoods, and finishes.
- CNC manufacturing knowledge.
- Experience coordinating with fabrication and installation teams.
Software Proficiency
Preferred experience with one or more of the following:
- Cabinet Vision
- AutoCAD
- SketchUp
- Bluebeam
- Microsoft Office / Google Workspace

Pay: $49,268.86 - $59,334.54 per year
