Job Description:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider. The Medical Assistant performs those direct care activities which are allowed to be delegated to unlicensed personnel under the New York State Education law Section 6530 (11), regulations, hospital policies and standards met by Nursing Services.
Education / Skills Required:

High school graduate or equivalent work experience, including ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology.

Graduate from a Medical Assistant Program preferred.

Minimum 3 months experience in a physician office practice setting preferred.

Possess a high level of interpersonal skills to interact with patients, patient’s families, staff and management.

Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.

Highly motivated, able to work outside the normal working hours as volume demands.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

As applicable, the individual has training, competency in attending to the special needs and/or behavior appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being given.

Ability to collaborate with other health personnel.

Strong organizational skills.

Comprehension of medical terminology.

Holds certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) or willing to perform within first month of hire.
