Dumpster Daddy is one of the fastest-growing roll-off dumpster companies in the Birmingham area. We're looking for an experienced Operations & Field Manager to take ownership of our daily operations so our leadership team can focus on growing the business.
This is not an office-only management position.
We're looking for someone who enjoys being in the field, solving problems, leading people, and isn't afraid to grab a wrench when something needs to be fixed.
Position Summary
The Operations & Field Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily field operations, including drivers, trucks, dumpsters, yard organization, fleet maintenance, customer issue resolution, and overall operational performance.
The ideal candidate is an experienced leader who can make decisions independently, hold employees accountable, solve problems quickly, and keep operations running efficiently with minimal oversight.
What You'll DoFleet Management
- Ensure all trucks are inspected and ready for service each day.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Schedule outside vendors when necessary.
- Reduce equipment downtime through proactive maintenance.
- Monitor truck condition and DOT compliance.
Hands-On Equipment Repairs (Required)
This position requires someone who is mechanically inclined and comfortable performing minor repairs in-house. Examples include:
- Plugging and repairing tires
- Replacing hydraulic hoses
- Minor hydraulic repairs
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Replacing lights
- Welding or coordinating small welding repairs (preferred)
- Minor engine or mechanical troubleshooting
- Repairing dumpster doors, rollers, latches, wheels, and hardware
- Performing quick field repairs to keep equipment operating safely
While major repairs will be outsourced, this role is expected to diagnose issues and complete as many minor repairs as practical to minimize downtime.
Driver Leadership
- Lead daily morning meetings.
- Assign trucks and routes.
- Coach, train, and mentor drivers.
- Conduct ride-alongs and performance evaluations.
- Hold employees accountable to company standards.
- Enforce safety policies and procedures.
Dumpster Fleet Management
- Track dumpster inventory and locations.
- Schedule dumpster repairs and painting.
- Coordinate welding and fabrication.
- Monitor utilization and equipment condition.
- Ensure inventory accuracy.
Yard Management
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe yard.
- Manage parts inventory.
- Monitor fuel inventory.
- Organize dumpsters by size and condition.
- Ensure equipment is staged and ready for the next workday.
Customer Service
- Resolve customer concerns professionally.
- Respond to field emergencies.
- Coordinate emergency service requests.
- Ensure customers receive exceptional service.
Operations Management
- Improve routing efficiency.
- Monitor daily production.
- Approve operational purchases within company guidelines.
- Track operational expenses.
- Submit daily and weekly operational reports.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
QualificationsRequired
- 5+ years of experience in operations, trucking, construction, waste management, heavy equipment, fleet management, or a related industry
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to perform hands-on repairs
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Ability to prioritize and solve problems under pressure
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to lift 75 pounds
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Preferred
- CDL
- Welding experience
- Hydraulic repair experience
- Heavy equipment maintenance experience
- Experience managing commercial fleets
- Experience using dispatch or fleet software (Docket experience is a plus)
