Tool and Die Technician / Tool and Die Maker

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Tool and Die Technician / Tool and Die Maker role supports the tooling and production departments by machining parts to repair metal stamping dies and tooling. As an experiencedtoolmaker or tool maker, this position relies heavily on precision craftsmanship, deep knowledge of tool and die maintenance, and expertise as a machinist or CNC machinist to keep operations running smoothly.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The tool die maker role requires frequent bending, stooping, stretching, and prolonged standing. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds continuously throughout an eight (8) hour shift. Requires normal vision and hearing range, as well as hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed in a factory environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Troubleshoots and repairs production dies and tools. Operates a variety of machinery, including traditional and CNC machinist equipment as well as hand tools, to build or repair necessary parts. Highly knowledgeable in most toolroom machinery.
- Repairs and installs die sensors and safety devices. Lays out, fits, and assembles parts to make and repair cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, etc.
- Studies blueprints to determine machining to be done and plans layout and process.
- Has deep expertise in metal stamping dies (blanking, forming, drawing) and understands die timing, pad travels, stripper and binder pad travels/pressures.
- Performs in-press and bench (tool and die) troubleshooting.
- Performs in-press die, sensor, and tooling adjustments, troubleshooting, and changes as required.
- Must have own measurement and hand tools to perform the required duties.
- TIG (toolroom) welding experience is preferred but not required.
- Must be able to work well and communicate with other shifts (verbally and in writing).
- Must be able to work with production supervisors, team leads, and production associates.
- Uses precision and non-precision measuring instruments/tools to verify dimensions and alignments.
- Disassembles dies as necessary to repair, sharpen, check clearances (cutting or forming), or strengthen die attributes.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
- Performs duties safely with attention to quality.
- Operates forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures are required when responding to press calls.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Toolroom Supervisor and Management.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Experience operating various machinery—including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment—is required.
SKILLS / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
To perform successfully as a tool and die maker, candidates must:
- Be able to read and interpret blueprints.
- Have a working knowledge of mathematics as it relates to metal stamping dies and tooling.
- Have hands-on experience with metal stamping dies and tooling.
- Possess 5–10 years of relevant tool and die experience (preferred).
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Steel-toed shoes and safety glasses are required while performing duties in production areas.
- Basic computer literacy and data entry skills are required.
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
