The Cardiopulmonary Technician provides bedside respiratory care to patients as assigned by the
manager, based on physician’s written orders, for both in-house and outpatient care.
- Graduate of an accredited respiratory care program approved by the Commission on
Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Current Wyoming Respiratory Care Practitioner license (or eligibility with intent to
obtain prior to hire)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six months of hire
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within six months of hire
due to OB and nursery support
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification strongly preferred or required
within one year of hire
- Participation in annual mandatory training, competencies, and bi-annual code blue drills
- Knowledge and performance of infection control, safety, and quality assurance
standards
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer prescribed respiratory medications, oxygen therapy, and therapeutic
modalities following documented physician orders.
- Implement treatments such as incentive spirometry, nebulizer therapy, chest
physiotherapy, and airway clearance devices.
- Manage oxygen delivery systems and ensure proper equipment operation and
calibration.
- Perform pulmonary function testing, bronchial challenge testing, and pulmonary stress
tests for inpatients and outpatients.
- Conduct and interpret arterial blood gases, including analysis via bedside equipment (I-Stat or equivalent)
- Manage artificial airway care, tracheostomy care, and ventilator management for
neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients (including invasive ventilation, BiPAP, and CPAP).
- Participate in emergency response situations (Code Blue, Rapid Response, newborn
resuscitations) by performing airway management, ventilation, and CPR.
- Support obstetric and surgical teams with airway and ventilator setup, neonatal
stabilization, and respiratory treatments.
- Perform cardiac diagnostic procedures including ECG, Holter, stress tests, and event
monitoring.
- Calibrate, clean, and maintain respiratory and blood gas instrumentation.
- Accurately document treatments, assessments, and outcomes in patient records and
EMR charts.
- Communicate effectively with nursing, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams regarding
patient condition and care plans.
- Ensure compliance with hospital infection prevention standards and safe handling of
biomedical equipment.
- Attend staff meetings, participate in continuing education, and maintain clinical
competence.
