Position Overview
Dirigo Bridge Company is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Maine with experience in bridge and stream crossing design. This role can be part-time or full-time and offers flexibility in work schedule and location.
The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of civil, structural, geotechnical, and hydrologic design, with the ability to support both engineering and practical construction-focused solutions.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform and review structural design for single-span bridges (steel and precast systems)
· Assist in the design and evaluation of stream crossings, including open-bottom structures and culvert alternatives
· Apply hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) principles to support crossing design (flood elevations, scour, AOP considerations)
· Coordinate with geotechnical data to inform foundation and abutment design
· Support development and refinement of new product lines
· Prepare and review engineering layouts, calculations, and design documentation
· Collaborate with partner engineering firms to support stamped designs
· Assist with project estimating and constructability reviews
· Provide technical support to internal teams, engineers, contractors, and clients
· Contribute to product innovation and standard design development
Qualifications
· Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maine (required)
· Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred but not required)
· 5+ years of experience in bridge design and stream crossings
· Working knowledge of AASHTO bridge design standards
· Experience with hydrology & hydraulics tools
· Understanding of geotechnical coordination and foundation design
· Experience with precast systems or accelerated bridge construction is a plus
· Strong understanding of construction methods and sequencing
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively
· Experience with permitting, Stream Smart principles, aquatic organism passage (AOP)
