The Learning Source is seeking applicants for 1 PT ELA Instructor for Golden Library in Golden. Classes are taught on site at the library twice a week. This position is 5 hours/instruction per week and 2.5 hours/planning per week, for a total of 7.5 hours/week. The course is from September 8 – December 17, with the possibility of continuing in the spring. Curriculum, training and educational resources are provided for all new instructors.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Provide direct instruction two evenings a week to students studying English as a Second Language.
● Implement curriculum tailored to English Language Acquisition.
● Assist adults in creating individualized education plans that meet their learning needs and goals.
● Engage adults with a range of skill levels using a variety of teaching and motivation strategies
● Work with volunteer tutors and provide assistance with curriculum, teaching methods, and materials.
● Perform daily record-keeping and data reporting responsibilities to The Learning Source. Track adults progress, attendance, and outcomes.
● Attend program team meetings as assigned by The Learning Source.
● Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
● Experience teaching adults and learners with diverse needs.
● Experience teaching English as a Second Language.
● Knowledge of education assessment tools – CASAS experience preferred (training on this is provided).
● Understanding of group instruction principles and classroom management.
● Experience working with culturally and economically diverse communities and/or historically underserved populations.
● Experience working with volunteers.
PREFERRED SKILLS :
● Knowledge of Adult Education Theory. Training on this is provided.
● Experience using database to track student information and outcomes.
● Lifelong learner and self-starter committed to continuous program improvement and student outcomes.
● Collaborative and professional team member.
