The Hartford Community Restorative Justice Center (HCRJC) is seeking an experienced, thoughtful, and community-minded professional to serve as Director of Programs.
The Director of Programs will supervise program staff and oversee the day-to-day operation of HCRJC’s programs. This role is responsible for program implementation, participant support systems, and maintaining strong coordination across program areas.
HCRJC is a restorative justice organization that has served Hartford, Vermont and surrounding communities for more than 15 years. The organization operates Reparative Panels, Circles of Support and Accountability (COSA), a certified Domestic Violence Accountability Program, community-based restorative processes, and a Vermont Department of Corrections-funded transitional housing program. HCRJC works with people navigating conflict, accountability processes, reentry, housing instability, and major life transitions.
The organization works closely with Probation & Parole, volunteers, service providers, and state partners throughout its work. As HCRJC continues to grow, the organization is expanding its school-based restorative programming, housing justice work, and community conferencing initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and experienced facilitator who can support staff, navigate complex situations professionally, and help maintain a calm, organized, and accountable work environment.
This role reports to and supports the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support program staff
- Oversee day-to-day program operations
- Support staff in navigating participant challenges, conflict, crisis response, and complex situations
- Lead staff meetings and program coordination discussions
- Support program implementation, reporting, and ongoing development
- Help strengthen internal communication and workflows
- Help ensure programs meet grant requirements and organizational standards
- Maintain strong working relationships with community partners, volunteers, and state agencies
- Work closely with the Executive Director and board of directors on program coordination and operational planning
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in restorative justice, reentry services, housing support, nonprofit leadership, conflict resolution, behavioral health, education, or related community-based work
- Minimum of 2 years of staff supervision or program leadership experience
- Experience facilitating difficult conversations, restorative practices, group processes, or conflict resolution efforts
- Experience working with individuals navigating justice system involvement, crisis situations, interpersonal conflict, or major life transitions
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and grounded in fast-moving community-based settings
Preferred experience includes:
- Vermont restorative justice or reentry systems
- Department of Corrections collaboration
- Program reporting or contract compliance
- Managing multiple program areas or staff teams
Equivalent lived and professional experience will be strongly considered alongside formal education and traditional career pathways.
Full-Time | In-Person
Starting Salary: $70,000
$450/month healthcare stipend available after 3-month probationary period
