High Voltage Breaker Testing Specialist - Field Service Description
Our client in the power solutions and electrical infrastructure industry is seeking a High Voltage Breaker Testing Specialist to join their field service team. In this role, you will lead circuit breaker diagnostic testing in the field, executing tests, collecting data, and diagnosing breaker condition across HV, EHV, and UHV systems. The ideal candidate is a breaker testing SME (subject matter expert) with hands-on experience running diagnostics, interpreting results, and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues across multiple breaker technologies. To be successful, you must be highly analytical, technically strong, and comfortable with extensive travel. This opportunity offers long-term stability, significant paid overtime, and strong earning potential while supporting critical power infrastructure projects nationwide.
High Voltage Breaker Testing Specialist - Field Service Responsibilities
- Perform acceptance, maintenance, & diagnostic testing on high voltage circuit breakers
- Serve as the SME for high-voltage breakers, collaborating with engineering and service teams
- Execute comprehensive breaker diagnostic programs in accordance with IEEE standards
- Operate breaker testing equipment to collect electrical, mechanical, and operational data
- Analyze test results to assess breaker condition and diagnose performance issues
- Inspect, adjust, and service breaker operating mechanisms and control systems
- Support breaker commissioning, troubleshooting, and corrective action recommendations
- Perform SF₆-related testing in compliance with safety and environmental requirements
- Document test procedures, results, and findings in clear, accurate field reports
- Communicate technical findings to internal engineering teams and customers
- Mentor junior technicians and support training on advanced breaker testing practices
- Follow safety procedures when working around energized and high-voltage equipment
- Assist with the development and refinement of testing procedures and best practices
High Voltage Breaker Testing Specialist - Field Service Qualifications
- 5+ years of high-voltage circuit breaker testing, maintenance, or commissioning is required
- Proven ability to execute and interpret a broad range of breaker diagnostic tests is required
- Strong working knowledge of IEEE breaker testing standards is required
- Hands-on experience with SF₆, vacuum, or oil circuit breaker technologies is required
- In-depth understanding of breaker operating mechanisms and control systems is required
- Valid driver’s license is required
- Ability to travel ~75% of the time to US project sites is required
