Beles & Beles is a law firm specializing in criminal defense, criminal appeals and immigration. The firm consists of 10 lawyers and several support staff members. The firm is located in Oakland's Uptown District, only a block away from Lake Merritt.
People normally come to us when they are in urgent need of help. We pride ourselves in being non-judgmental, caring and professional. We are looking for someone that will be empathetic to a person's situation, without regard to the crime they may be accused of committing.
We need someone who has strong writing skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to gather information for use in drafting coherent and persuasive memorandums for the purpose of resentencing incarcerated clients with excessive sentences. New progressive criminal justice laws in California have led to a glut in eligibility for resentencing and we need your assistance to develop and submit these petitions. You would be working directly under an attorney.
Candidates with prior law office experience and those bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin are preferred but such experience and skills not mandatory. We encourage anyone interested in the position to apply.
The atmosphere in the office is relaxed, but fast paced.
We offer competitive wages, overtime pay, medical insurance, paid parking or commuter expense reimbursement, and paid vacation, personal and sick leave. Salary will be evaluated for a raise after 90 days.
Preference for Mandarin speaker and/or background in bookkeeping.
