Position Summary
The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, accurate preparation and dispensing of prescription medications while ensuring compliance with state and federal laws. This role includes providing professional consultation to patients and healthcare providers, supporting pharmacy technicians, and upholding our standards of excellence in patient care.
Note: This position is based at Balbonis Drug Store but may be combined with hours at our sister location to offer full-time employment.
Key Responsibilities
Prescription Processing & Dispensing
- Review and verify prescriptions for accuracy, interactions, and clinical appropriateness.
- Accurately dispense medications and counsel patients on proper use and adherence.
- Ensure compliance with Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy regulations and company policies.
Patient Care & Consultation
- Provide medication counseling and clinical guidance to patients and caregivers.
- Administer immunizations in accordance with certification and state laws.
- Support medication therapy management (MTM), adherence programs, and compliance packaging services.
Operational Support
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and ensure accuracy in their work.
- Maintain inventory control, including ordering, checking expiration dates, and returns.
- Assist in daily operations including opening/closing duties, documentation, and audit readiness.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Adhere to all DEA, FDA, and state pharmacy regulations.
- Participate in quality assurance programs, including reporting medication errors and assisting with CQI activities.
- Maintain accurate records for controlled substances and immunization logs.
Collaboration
- Work closely with pharmacy management, owners, and sister locations to ensure smooth workflow and continuity of care.
- Communicate with prescribers, insurance providers, and patients for clarifications and prior authorizations.
Qualifications
- PharmD or BS in Pharmacy from an accredited school
- Active Massachusetts Pharmacist license in good standing
- Current CPR/BLS and immunization certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Excellent clinical judgment and attention to detail
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Prior retail or community pharmacy experience preferred
- Experience with pharmacy systems a plus

- Includes rotating weekends and evenings, as needed
