As a member of the technical production staff, the Fire Protection Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design of fire suppression, smoke control, and fire detection and emergency communications systems, as well as applicable code adherence and code review. This includes drawings, specifications, reports, condition assessments, Life Safety Analyses, cost estimates, and similar products and services.

Essential Functions:
- Prepare design documents employing a thorough knowledge of industry practices and office standards.
- Incorporate a thorough understanding of the governing codes and standards affecting the work.
- Provide quality control reviews of fire suppression, smoke control, and fire detection and communications systems and life safety designs.
- Utilize CONTAM, Trane/Trace, Carrier/HAP, Microsoft Office products, CADD, BIM/Revit, and other industry software.
- Conduct field surveys, conditions assessments, Life Safety Analyses, load analyses, analyses of fire hazards, and cost estimating take-offs.
- Code consulting
- Mentor staff and serve as a technical resource for design issues related to life safety features and fire protection systems.

Education and Experience:
(a) Required -
- Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent.
- Professional Engineer Licensure, Engineer-In-Training
(b) Preferred -
- LEED AP or equivalent.
- Commissioning certification or experience.
Supervisory Responsibility - Ability to manage projects and staff. Ability to mentor less experienced staff.
Work Environment - Most work is performed in an office environment. Regular trips to a variety of locations for meetings and observations are also required.
Expected Hours - This is a full-time position based on a 40-hour work week. A 7AM to 9AM start time will be negotiated with your supervisor. Schedule will be coordinated with the normal Monday through Friday, 9AM to 3PM core hours. An unpaid lunch hour beginning at 11:45AM is available. Requires adjusting schedule to suit clients and working overtime as necessary to satisfactorily meet project schedules.
Physical Demands - This position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time. It also requires the use of basic motor, oral, and visual skills, such as the ability to walk, use hands, talk, hear, and the ability to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, and to adjust focus. It requires the ability to stand for extended periods, climb ladders, and lift/carry materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
Travel - This position requires regular day trips throughout the mid-Atlantic area. It requires an occasional overnight trip and travel by plane. It requires a valid driver's license and appropriate vehicle.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance - This position requires the ability to pass a background check and obtain clearance for client and government contracts. Must be approved for working in the United States.

Base Salary Range of $80k to $120k (5-10 years of relevant industry experience)
