We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Endoscopy Technician to join our healthcare team, providing high-quality patient care across diverse clinical settings. In this role, you will provide direct procedural support to physicians and clinical staff during endoscopic and surgical procedures. This role is essential to the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the procedure environment, with primary accountability for endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfection, procedure room setup and turnover, supply and equipment management, and physician preference fulfillment. The Endoscopy Technician functions as a key member of the perioperative team, operating under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and responding to physician direction during procedures.
Scope Reprocessing and High-Level Disinfection
- Performs endoscope reprocessing following each procedure in strict accordance with NRSC infection control policy, manufacturer guidelines, and applicable regulatory standards
- Completes all steps of the reprocessing cycle including pre-cleaning, leak testing, manual cleaning with enzymatic detergent, high-level disinfection via automated endoscope reprocessor (AER) using OPA solution, rinsing, drying, and proper storage
- Confirms and documents successful AER cycle completion for each scope; the AER performs automated OPA concentration verification — technician reviews cycle results and documents per NRSC policy
- Maintains accurate reprocessing logs documenting scope identification, patient assignment, cycle completion, and reprocessing technician for each scope processed; ensures log is always current and complete
- Ensures proper storage of reprocessed scopes in ventilated, designated storage areas per NRSC policy
- Maintains reprocessing equipment including AERs; reports malfunctions or maintenance needs to the Nurse Manager or ANM promptly
- Adheres to all standard precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements during reprocessing activities
Procedure Room Setup and Support
- Sets up procedure rooms prior to each case using physician preference cards; ensures all required equipment, instruments, supplies, and medications are available and ready
- Operates under RN supervision; responds to physician direction during procedures for specimen collection, equipment operation, and procedural support
- Assists in preparing patients for procedures as directed by clinical staff, within the scope of this role and under RN supervision
- Handles, labels, and processes patient specimens according to NRSC policy and procedure; ensures accurate tracking and timely routing
- Operates technical and specialized endoscopic equipment per manufacturer instructions and NRSC protocols
Room Turnover and Environmental Maintenance
- Assists with cleaning of procedure rooms after each case; removes used supplies and equipment and returns items to proper storage areas
- Organizes, cleans, and restocks assigned procedure rooms at the end of each procedure day
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe procedure environment consistent with infection control and AAAHC standards
- Promotes a safe environment by following established protocols, policies, and procedures at all times
Supply and Equipment Management
- Monitors supply and equipment inventory levels; ensures sufficient stock to meet procedural demand
- Documents and communicates supply needs, equipment repairs, and work orders to the Nurse Manager or ANM in a timely manner
- Collaborates with clinical staff and management regarding procurement, equipment maintenance, and inventory management
- Serves as a resource for equipment operation, physician preferences, and procedural supplies
Team and Professional Responsibilities
- Maintains efficiency and smooth patient flow throughout the procedure day in collaboration with the clinical team
- Participates as an active team member; assists clinical staff with workload as needed
- Assists with orientation of new team members as directed
- Attends required in-services, staff meetings, and competency training
- Participates in QMI/QAPI activities as assigned
- Maintains patient, employee, and facility confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager, ANM, or Director
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Current BLS/CPR certification required; must obtain within 30 days of hire if not current at time of employment
- Prior experience in endoscopy, surgical technology, sterile processing, or a clinical support role preferred
- Experience with endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfection protocols strongly preferred
- Familiarity with infection control standards and aseptic technique preferred
- Proficient with standard office software and electronic documentation systems
- Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand, walk, reach, bend, and move continuously throughout the facility; able to respond rapidly in emergency situations
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; frequent lifting of objects up to 25 lbs; ability to push stretchers and equipment carts
- Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range; normal color vision required
- Must be able to move fingers in a coordinated manner; ability to handle instruments and equipment with precision
