OVERVIEW
The Branch Controller (BC) works closely with the Branch Manager (BM), providing administrative and accounting support to ensure the efficient operation of the Branch. While collaborating with the BM on day-to-day Branch operations, the BC is accountable to the VP-Treasurer for all financial matters and for ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. This role leads the financial and administrative activities at the branch to assure compliance with corporate standard operating procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years of experience in Accounting and/or Finance; Construction preferred.
- 3+ years of management and assessment of financial performance experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent required.
- Proficient in MS Office products and high capability in advanced analytics using spreadsheet software.
- Ability to analyze financial results on projects and assist project management with development of action plans to maintain performance levels and profitability expectations of their projects.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately with little direct supervision.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Branch Operations
- Perform branch level accounting including account reconciliations, the month-end close process for assigned projects and monthly, quarterly & annual reporting for branch.
- Collaborate regularly and frequently with Branch Manager, VP – Finance, and Branch-level management regarding financial performance.
- Assist the Branch Manager in the development of the budget and forecasts.
- Prepares and coordinates daily reporting, monthly closing, and other reporting requirements as required at the branch level.
- Meet regularly with the Branch Manager to review project financials.
- Oversee the activities of the accounting department, such as accounts payable, billings, collections, and payroll.
Corporate Compliance
- Ensure branch accounting processes adhere to corporate standard operating procedures.
- Work closely with the Corporate team to identify and advise on areas of opportunity to positively impact revenue and overall performance.
- Support corporate process improvements and work with Corporate Controller and managers to implement changes.
- Maintain a “cost conscious” attitude and suggest methods to maximize revenue and minimize expenditures.
- Keep up to date on laws, regulations and compliance requirements related to areas of responsibility.
ERP Systems
- Point of contact for ERP initiatives and improvements offering support to branch.
- Have a complete understanding of all areas of Spectrum.
- Be the first resource of support for all users before outsourcing to ERP Support.
- Responsible for collection call and Spectrum notes.
Communication
- Meet with Branch Manager on a weekly basis to discuss current events, updates, and concerns within the branch.
- Communicate information received from monthly Controller meetings discussing corporate initiatives and develop a plan for implementing to branch employees.
- Works closely with a branch to gain support for company updates, proposals, and new accounting initiatives.
- Be a resource for the Project Managers to effectively analyze projects and the associated risks; take an active role in the projections process.
- Function as the liaison with Branch and Corporate concerning the need for information or development of updated information.
- Communicate departmental or divisional information and needs to the VP-Treasurer and other Corporate staff.
- Manage team performance by setting clear goals and expectations for and track progress against the goals.
- Actively deliver feedback, and addresses performance problems and issues promptly.
- Provide professional growth opportunities for team and ensure adequate written job documentation and cross-training of departments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job mainly operates in an office setting using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
