Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) provides direct patient care and clinical support to the Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants) within our pediatric practice.
The Medical Assistant assists with rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting in the electronic medical record (EMR), performing medical procedures as directed, and ensuring a clean, efficient, and compassionate patient experience.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet and room patients in a professional and courteous manner.
- Obtain and document accurate patient information including vital signs (height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure), medical history, allergies, and chief complaint.
- Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during exams and procedures.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and injections per provider orders and documentation protocols.
- Collect and process lab specimens, perform CLIA-waived testing, and accurately record results.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of exam rooms, equipment, and instruments. This includes ensuring exam rooms are properly stocked.
- Accurately document all patient interactions and procedures in the EMR.
- Assist with patient education, follow-up calls, prescription refills/RX line, responding to patient portal messages, completing and scanning clinical paperwork and health forms into patient charts within a timely manner.
- Ensure vaccine storage is properly maintained and document temperature daily on log sheets located on the fridge/ freezer to ensure compliance with the VFC program.
- Clinical chart prepping inclusive of uploading newborn screens, hospital and lab records, imaging reports, and updating vaccine and medication histories from outside agencies prior to patient visit.
- Adhere to all OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control policies.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the provider or management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (CMA, RMA, or equivalent preferred).
- Clinical experience in Pediatrics practice preferred but not required.
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
- Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to assist with positioning and comforting children during exams or procedures.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
