Rachel Bouvin Speech Services is seeking an experienced Reading & Writing Specialist with Orton-Gillingham certification to join our team conducting comprehensive Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) for students with reading and written language disabilities throughout the five boroughs of New York City and Yonkers.
This is a 1099 Independent Contractor opportunity with flexible scheduling.
Responsibilities
The selected contractor will:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students presenting with reading, writing, spelling, and literacy-related challenges.
- Administer and interpret appropriate standardized and informal assessments to identify areas of strength and need.
- Evaluate phonological awareness, decoding, encoding, fluency, reading comprehension, written expression, spelling, and related literacy skills.
- Prepare a detailed, comprehensive written evaluation report that includes:
- Background information
- Assessment findings
- Educational impact
- Diagnostic impressions, when appropriate
- Evidence-based recommendations for instruction, accommodations, interventions, and goals
- Collaborate with Rachel Bouvin Speech Services and legal counsel as needed regarding evaluation findings.
- Participate in preparation meetings with a special education attorney prior to due process or impartial hearing proceedings, if required.
- Provide professional testimony regarding evaluation findings and recommendations, when necessary.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Hold current certification as an Orton-Gillingham Practitioner, Certified Classroom Educator, Associate, or Fellow through an accredited Orton-Gillingham organization.
- Possess a master's degree or higher in Special Education, Reading, Literacy, Education, or a related field.
- Have experience conducting comprehensive reading and writing evaluations for students with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of structured literacy and evidence-based reading intervention.
- Possess excellent written communication and report-writing skills.
- Be comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, families, attorneys, and school personnel.
- Prior experience providing expert testimony or participating in impartial hearings or due process proceedings is preferred but not required.
Compensation
- 1099 Independent Contractor
- Compensation is competitive and will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and interview.
Pay: From $800.00 per day
