Buyer will primarily be responsible for purchasing materials, supplies or equipment for the business. Will negotiate pricing with suppliers, research possible item substitutions and maintain raw material inventory for upcoming production schedule.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Materials manager with maintaining inventory levels and materials on a daily basis
- Place purchase orders for material to support planed production
- Maintain and update approved supplier list and conduct research for alternate supplier sources
- Support contract negotiation effort with suppliers
- Lead supplier cost reduction efforts
- Manage logistics for incoming raw materials, WIP items and production tooling
- Develop an effective and accurate system for monitoring purchase orders and communicate with managers to ensure all orders are accurate
- Communicate with suppliers for quoting components.
- Prepare and maintain key material and packaging pricing list for use with quotation process.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Provide backup support for scheduling department (MRP planning, production scheduling, shipping schedule, invoicing lists & general office support)
Qualifications/Experience:
- At least two years’ experience working in procurement within a MFG company
- Strong communication skills with ability to build constructive relationships with vendors
- Ability to plan and prioritize daily work and evaluate daily progress towards goals
- Ability to negotiate vendor contracts in a professional and tactful manner
- Ability to solve problems that may impact the company’s ability to meet customer orders including backlog of materials or defective materials
- H.S. diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred
- Proficient in the use of MS Office with emphasis in Excel
