The Communications Team provides comprehensive communications services for the agency, including media relations, digital communications, graphic design and branding, agency reports, website services and internal communications. The team contributes to the agency’s mission of strengthening communities by ensuring communication is clear, concise, written in plain language and accessible to all.
Position Objective: Reporting to the Visual Communications Manager, this position designs and creates material in a variety of formats that fulfill the marketing and communications needs of the agency. The Graphic Designer supports and reinforces the Commerce brand across the agency, as well as the individual design needs for multiple divisions, including the Office of Economic Development. This position designs and produces a wide variety of materials, such as flyers, brochures, factsheets, reports, presentations, social media, email campaigns, event materials/booth design and motion/video design, considering the intended use, audience, budget, and project goals.
Bachelor’s Degree or Associate's Degree (experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year-basis) in Communications. Graphic or Visual design or similar
- Two years of work experience in graphic design in a team environment working with other designers at an agency, in a newsroom or equivalent
- Strong portfolio that demonstrates capability of producing high-quality design work in color and layout composition and a proven effectiveness in producing creative visual communications.
- An efficient approach when designing by using industry standard practices and leveraging the proper toolset and file structure for the specific job allowing for rapid refinement and design changes.
- Fluency in use of the Adobe Creative suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, other Adobe applications such as After Effects and video editing tools a plus. Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, etc. are also a requirement.
- Knowledge of printing and/or reproduction processes and techniques
- Strong portfolio demonstrating capability of producing high-quality design work
- Excellent communication skills and team-oriented approach
- Ability to produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to receive feedback and incorporate feedback into work product
Desired Position Qualifications:
- Prior work executing effective designs for large-scale marketing campaigns
- Past experience working in the economic development field or similar
- Demonstrable experience working specifically on economic development trade show booths and designing trade show marketing assets.

Work from Anywhere in Washington State
This position may be located anywhere within Washington State though occasional travel to a Commerce office building or in-state travel to attend events or meetings may be required. If selected, you will need to travel to pick up equipment and receive instruction. Many Commerce employees work remotely or have a hybrid schedule.
