Seasonal part-time farm worker for a small organic, sustainable farm in Waynesboro. Primarily selling Strawberries, Blackberries, Raspberries and Blueberries but also a variety of Vegetables, Herbs and cut flowers.
Seasonal Position July - October. Five 6 hour days. Hours 12pm-6pm Mon, Tues, Fri. 2pm-8pm on Wed and 7:30am - 1:30pm on Sat to attend farmer's markets.
Work will be primarily helping customers at the farm stand/farmer's market but may also include:
Harvesting, packing and storing crops for market
Weeding and other plant care
Greenhouse/Nursery work
Plant maintenance
Crop residue cleanup
Miscellaneous farm tasks
Duties
- Greet customers warmly and provide exceptional customer service to enhance their shopping experience
- Operate POS (Point of Sale) systems efficiently for sales transactions, including cash handling and credit card processing
- Maintain attractive merchandising displays by stocking shelves, rotating stock, and organizing products for maximum appeal
- Conduct upselling by suggesting complementary items or seasonal specials to increase sales
- Manage inventory levels through regular stock checks and communicate low-stock items to supervisors
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the market area, including cleaning displays and handling waste properly
- Engage in basic math calculations for pricing, discounts, and sales totals with accuracy
Qualifications
- Previous retail sales experience preferred, especially in grocery stores or farmers markets
- Farm experience a plus but not required
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage customers positively
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse community needs
- Experience with POS systems, cash handling, and retail math is highly desirable
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as stocking and merchandising
- Basic math skills for managing transactions accurately and calculating discounts or totals
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly attitude and professional phone etiquette
- Knowledge of grocery store operations or familiarity with farm market products is advantageous
- Ability to lift 50 lb containers of produce
