American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical PCU position at a large academic teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and proficiency in high-acuity post-surgical care.

Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with near-ICU level acuity in an academic teaching hospital setting
-
Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), general surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow
-
Staffing ratio of 1:3–4
-
Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30

Every other weekend required; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs
-
Floating required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) within the hospital and to an affiliate hospital; refusal to float may result in contract termination

Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned as needed, with training and resources provided

Cerner charting experience required

Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand

Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program required

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; AHA and RQI formats accepted

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Proficiency in cardiac monitoring (on-unit)

Experience with chest tube management, fresh trachs, feeding tube care, epidurals, and post-surgical patient care

Experience with non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols, and insulin drip titration
-
Experience with external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy care, and Doppler flap checks

SSN and DOB required for consideration

2 supervisor references required for consideration

As a teaching facility, travelers must be willing to precept or have students shadow them during their assignment

Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler

Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a consecutive break to reset eligibility: out-of-state residents require a 90-day break; in-state residents require a 180-day break
