About:
Puget Sound Training Center (PSTC) is based in Renton, WA and provides workforce development services designed to help individuals gain the skills, confidence, and resources necessary to obtain meaningful employment and achieve economic self-sufficiency. PSTC serves refugees, immigrants, low-income individuals, and job seekers throughout King County through training programs, employment services, and supportive partnerships.
Position Summary:
The Instructional Assistant supports participants enrolled in PSTC's computer literacy, customer service, and CPR class. This position assists instructors, supports participant learning, and helps ensure participants successfully complete training. The Instructional Assistant works directly with participants to provide classroom/instructor support, technology assistance, and encouragement while helping maintain program quality and compliance. In the event the instructor is absent, the IA will step in to fulfill instructional duties/activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Participant Success & Engagement
- Support participant engagement, retention, and successful completion of training programs.
- Monitor participant attendance, progress, and participation.
- Provide individualized assistance to participants requiring additional support.
- Conduct participant follow-up and retention activities.
- Support participant goal setting and achievement.
Classroom & Instructional Support
- Assist instructors during classroom instruction and training activities.
- Prepare learning materials and classroom resources with instructor.
- Provide technology support during computer-based instruction.
- Assist participants with computer applications, assignments, and projects.
- Support classroom management and learner engagement.
- Provide instructional activities in the event the instructor is absent.
Career Readiness & Employment Preparation
- Assist participants with resume development, cover letters, and employment applications as needed.
- Support job readiness workshops and employment preparation activities as needed.
- Conduct mock interviews and workplace readiness exercises as needed.
- Assist participants in developing customer service and professional communication skills.
- Support employment placement and follow-up activities as needed.
Data, Compliance & Reporting
- Assist instructor in maintaining participant files and required documentation.
- Collect participant information as required for reporting.
- Track participant milestones, outcomes, and completion data.
- Assist with monthly reporting and contract compliance requirements.
- Ensure participant files meet program and funder standards.
Additional Duties
- Provide PSTC tours to interested individuals.
- Assist with the enrollment process for Private Pay, Labor & Industry participants, and CPR participants.
- Support job fairs, PSTC events, and community outreach activities.
- Attend staff meetings and training opportunities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 1-2 years experience working with diverse populations in an educational/training setting.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Basic understanding of customer service principles and workplace expectations.
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting adult learners.
- Teaching or Tutoring experience highly preferred.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities preferred.
Pay: $24.00 per hour
