Summary:
The Production Supervisor is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing daily operations on the shop floor in a fast-paced work truck manufacturing, repair, and upfitting environment. This role combines technical mechanical expertise with team leadership to ensure that production goals are met safely, efficiently, and with high quality. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical background, excels in problem-solving, and is skilled in motivating teams to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise team members on daily production activities, including but not limited to, production goals, deadlines, quality, output, performance, and employee relations.
- Mentor and coach in the areas of leadership, teamwork, continuous improvement, safety, and productivity.
- Cultivate an environment that promotes individual accountability and celebrates both individual and team successes.
- Ability to set daily/weekly/monthly goals, communicating them effectively to employees.
- Supervisory skills needed to oversee employees and coach them effectively.
- Commitment to safety and PPE especially with use of tools and equipment.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to spot issues in efficiency/productivity and suggest improvements.
- Track and maintain production schedule provided by production scheduling. Identify and resolve production issues to stay on track with production schedule.
- Anticipate and solve operational challenges, provide recommendations and report to the Director of Operations, and ensure production matrix is updated.
- Schedule shop workload & provide feedback to production scheduling and sales team.
- Assign and update employees with job tasks, including daily & weekly projection updates to scheduler.
- Review, modify, and implement efficient and effective department processes, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve quality and productivity, as well as eliminate waste and reduce the labor costs.
- Implement and continuously review/update production and quality procedures and processes according to engineering specifications.
- Assist HR with departmental staffing, such as interviewing and making hiring recommendations.
- Responsible for proper training, cross-training, and coaching team members.
- Identifies, documents, and implements opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Maintain and organize storage raw materials.
- Monitor department shop equipment for proper maintenance intervals.
- Perform final QC of equipment before scheduling for delivery.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- High school diploma required
- Minimum of 3 years of management experience in a manufacturing production environment required
- Strong mechanical background with hands-on skills in fabrication, assembly, hydraulics, electrical systems, or welding required
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings required
- Demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating subordinates required
- Excellent computer skills required - includes ALL Microsoft applications
- CRM and/or OEM Software (e.g., Salesforce) experience considered a plus
- Ability to create a culture of continuous improvement with forward thinking
- Ability to manage and prioritize workflow
- Ability to understand and enforce all safety measures and requirements
- Must be versatile, flexible, and possess the ability to effectively operate in a continuously changing environment
The ideal candidate will have the following skill sets:
- Organization – for tasks such as planning the production schedule and making sure all necessary materials and equipment are available to the production team when needed.
- Problem Solving – needs to be able to quickly assess production issues and establish the best course of action.
- Analytical – must be able to spot problems within the manufacturing process quickly and take appropriate action to rectify. Also responsible for ensuring that the production team has access to all the necessary skills and equipment at the appropriate times.
- Time Management – must ensure that their production team is working in the most time-efficient way and with the least downtime possible, to maintain production output while still maintaining staff safety and product quality.
- Decision-Making – must be able to make decisions quickly, under pressure, after careful assessment of all available information.
- Communication – must be able to deliver instructions clearly and concisely to the production team. Must also be able to deal with team-management issues quickly and effectively.
