Maintenance Worker I - Water-
Supports the water crew as laborer and equipment operator.

Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment such as a pick-up truck, compressor, excavator, backhoe, loader and safety equipment.

Performs excavation of holes and trenches up to 12 feet deep.

Installs and repairs water service lines, fire hydrants, fire lines, meters and meter chambers, water mains and main line valves.

Installs and maintains sewer lines and manholes.
-
Installs, cleans and repairs stormwater catch basins and manholes.
-
Works closely with contractors and engineers on water and sewer projects. Assists with meter installations and main line connections to the water system.

Removes and replaces asphalt or concrete in construction excavation of water mains or services.
-
Performs regularly scheduled maintenance tasks including main line valve exercising, line flushing, pressure regulating valve maintenance and meter repairs.

Performs excellent internal and external customer service. Interacts with the public to answer questions, provide assistance.

Adheres to established safety procedures and utilizes safety equipment as required.

Controls traffic around work sites including flagging and assembly and set up of traffic control devices such as barricades, cones and flag stands.

Monitors and maintains an organized, clean and safe work environment. Performs clean up tasks throughout shift.

Ensures compliance with instructions, policies, specifications, procedures and legal requirements.
Other job functions:-
Locates water and sewer utilities for construction activities, as requested.

May be temporarily assigned to other divisions as needed for support including but not limited to snow plowing, sanding and de-icing application.

Utility Worker - Water-
Responsible for a wide-variety of labor duties in a safe and efficient manner ranging from extended physical exertion to semi-skilled tasks requiring manipulative skills.

Operates and maintains a variety of equipment and hand and power tools, including but not limited to an eductor truck, pick-up truck, boom truck, dump truck, excavator, grader, backhoe, loader, roto hammer, jack hammer, tapping machine, torque wrench, power cutoff saw, compactor, gas-powered water pump, and air compressor varying in frequency depending upon the season, maintenance program, climatic conditions or the Cities and customers’ needs.

Adheres to established safety procedures and utilizes safety equipment including gas monitors, tripods, harnesses and blowers for confined space entry.

Performs excavation of holes and trenches up to 12 feet deep, installation and repair of water service lines, fire hydrants, fire lines, meters and meter chambers and water mains and main line valves.

Works closely with contractors and engineers on utility projects. Assists with meter installations and main line connections to the water system.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Maintenance Worker I - Water-
Work is performed in outdoor settings, in very dirty environments in all weather conditions and seasonal temperature ranges. Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.

Possibility of exposure to raw sewage, microorganisms and toxic or unpleasant odors.
-
Noise levels range from quiet to very loud requiring ear protection.
-
May perform duties outside of normal hours. Travels by car or truck.
Requires the ability to:-
Use appropriate safety equipment and follow safety policies, practices and procedures.

Work outdoors for extended periods of time under unfavorable weather conditions.
-
Frequently climb, balance, bend over, twist at waist, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Traverse varying terrain and obstacles such as pipes and ditches. Reach with hands and arms. Sit, stand, walk and ambulate up and down ladders and stairs.

Work in close quarters and confined spaces. Descend as far as 20 feet below ground level into manholes, vaults, tanks and excavations.

Maintain good eye sight required for close and distant vision and adjusting focusing. Have good hand to eye coordination and finger dexterity to handle, feel and/or operate objects, tools and equipment.

Talk and hear with background noise.

Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Utility Worker - Water-
Work is performed in outdoor settings for extended periods, in very dirty environments in all weather conditions. Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Temperatures range from above 100 degrees in the summer to below freezing in the winter.

Possibility of exposure to the risk of electrical shock and hazards from obstacles and open trenches.
-
Noise levels range from quiet to very loud requiring ear protection.
Requires the ability to:-
Use appropriate safety equipment and follow safety policies, practices and procedures.

Maintain good eye sight required for close and distant vision and adjusting focus.

Reach with hands and arms. Regularly and frequently stand, walk, bend over, ambulate up and down ladders and stairs, and have good hand to eye coordination, and finger dexterity to handle, feel and/or operate objects, tools and controls. Occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk and hear with background noise.
