MW ENERGY LLC is seeking a skilled and dependable Industrial Painter to support transformer repair and refurbishment operations at our Houston service facility.
The primary responsibility of this position is to prepare and repaint transformer tanks, covers, welded seams, and other metal surfaces. The ideal candidate has experience with industrial coatings, metal surface preparation, touch-up painting, and spray-painting equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare transformer tanks, covers, welded seams, and metal components for painting.
- Remove oil, dirt, rust, weld residue, loose paint, and surface contaminants.
- Perform sanding, grinding, masking, cleaning, priming, and touch-up painting.
- Apply primers and finish coatings using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
- Follow coating specifications for mixing ratios, application thickness, curing time, and environmental conditions.
- Protect nameplates, bushings, valves, gauges, cables, and other components from overspray.
- Inspect completed surfaces for runs, missed areas, bubbles, poor adhesion, uneven coverage, and color variation.
- Perform paint corrections and rework when required.
- Use and maintain spray guns, grinders, sanders, and related tools.
- Coordinate with welders, transformer technicians, production supervisors, and QA/QC personnel.
- Complete daily production and quality-control records.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Comply with all company PPE, respiratory-protection, chemical-handling, and safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Previous experience in industrial painting, metal fabrication, equipment repair, manufacturing, or a related environment.
- Working knowledge of metal surface preparation, primers, finish coatings, and touch-up procedures.
- Ability to safely operate spray-painting equipment, grinders, sanders, and hand tools.
- Ability to recognize common coating defects and complete corrective work.
- Ability to follow written work instructions and safety labels.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience painting transformers, electrical equipment, industrial machinery, tanks, or steel structures.
- Experience with airless, conventional, or HVLP spray equipment.
- Experience using dry-film thickness gauges.
- Familiarity with coating technical data sheets and safety data sheets.
- OSHA, respirator, hazardous-chemical, or industrial safety training.
- Experience working in a production or refurbishment facility.
