American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.

30-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with designations including Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
-
Common patient diagnoses include heart failure, A-fib, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes
-
Patient population includes those with acute and chronic disease, post-op surgical patients, post-cardiac procedure patients, and those with med-surg comorbidities such as hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
-
RN patient ratio is 1:4–6, supported by LPNs and 2–3 CNAs per shift
-
12-hour shifts available on both day (7A–7P) and night (7P–7A) rotations on a 6-week schedule

Weekend rotation requires 5–6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule

Holiday coverage required at approximately 75% of major holidays, with specific holidays including Thanksgiving or day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day

No on-call or call-back requirements

Floating may be required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility

EMR: Epic (experience noted); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips
-
Unit equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, portable vital sign monitors (Dynamap), bladder scanners, portable oxygen systems, Glucommander, PCA pain management, suction machines, chest tubes, JP drains, Hemovac drains, external fixators, and cardiac telemetry monitoring

Active GA or compact RN license required

BLS certification required; ACLS preferred

Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency — candidates must pass an EKG competency exam as part of onboarding compliance

Medical-Surgical nursing certification preferred but not required

Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required
-
Strong clinical assessment skills appropriate for a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital setting
-
Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and rate-titrating cardiac drips
-
Skills in IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, post-op monitoring, groin management, and Foley insertion and maintenance
-
Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Responsibilities include care coordination with interdisciplinary teams, discharge planning, and patient education with emphasis on renal and fluid management
-
Unit support includes CNAs (VS, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulation, hourly rounding, and patient transport), a unit secretary (7A–11P), a house-wide call secretary overnight, a charge nurse, phlebotomy (lab-collect; nurses draw from CVLs), a PICC team, discharge nurses, a resource float team, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, intensivist 24/7, and a Central Telemetry Unit for monitoring

Orientation consists of 1 day of general hospital orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of unit-specific orientation
