About Us
We are a domestic furniture manufacturer operating a fast-paced production facility specializing in aluminum-frame furniture, HDPE components, powder-coated finishes, and upholstery. Our manufacturing processes are performed in-house and include laser cutting, welding, CNC routing, waterjet cutting, fabrication, and assembly.
We are seeking a Manufacturing CAD/CAM Programmer & Equipment Backup Operator to serve as the technical link between engineering and production. This position works directly with the Lead Engineer to convert SolidWorks designs into production-ready programs while supporting critical manufacturing equipment operations.
Position Summary
This role is responsible for translating SolidWorks models into optimized manufacturing programs for Trumpf laser systems and supporting production by maintaining accurate revisions, resolving design-to-manufacturing issues, and serving as a cross-trained backup operator for key fabrication equipment.
The ideal candidate combines strong SolidWorks and CAD/CAM experience with hands-on manufacturing knowledge and the ability to work effectively in a production environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
CAD/CAM Programming
- Convert SolidWorks weldments, sheet metal designs, and assemblies into production-ready Trumpf laser programs.
- Create and optimize nests, toolpaths, and machine parameters for efficient manufacturing.
- Maintain program accuracy and manufacturing readiness before production release.
Design and Manufacturing Support
- Review production feedback and modify SolidWorks models as required to resolve fitment or manufacturing issues.
- Update manufacturing programs and related documentation to reflect approved engineering changes.
- Ensure design intent is maintained throughout the manufacturing process.
Production Documentation
- Create and maintain manufacturing drawings and work instructions for laser operators, welders, and assembly personnel.
- Develop clear, accurate documentation that supports efficient production and minimizes ambiguity.
Equipment Operation and Cross-Training
- Learn and operate Trumpf laser equipment to provide production coverage when necessary.
- Cross-training on CNC router and waterjet equipment, and serving as a backup operator for those manufacturing cells.
- Support continuous production operations by assisting with machine setup and troubleshooting as needed.
Revision Control
- Maintain file management, revision control, and documentation standards.
- Ensure production personnel are working from the current approved revisions and manufacturing files.
Team Communication
- Communicate technical information and production requirements with engineering and manufacturing personnel.
- Collaborate with operators, welders, assemblers, and supervisors to support production goals.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience using SolidWorks in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience creating and modifying weldments, sheet metal parts, assemblies, and production drawings.
- Understanding of manufacturing principles, including:
- K-factors
- Bend allowances
- Sheet metal fabrication processes
- Aluminum fabrication and cutting considerations
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and production requirements.
- Professional proficiency in both English and Spanish.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience programming Trumpf laser systems.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software used in laser, CNC router, or waterjet programming.
- Experience with nesting software and production optimization.
- Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and assembly processes.
- Experience supporting engineering change implementation in a manufacturing setting.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate manufacturing equipment following established procedures.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Application Requirements
To be considered, applicants should include:
- A brief description of the most complex Trumpf laser program, CNC program, or multi-configuration assembly they have managed.
- Three examples of relevant work, such as:
- Nesting layouts
- Assembly drawings
- Flat patterns
- Manufacturing documentation
- Similar CAD/CAM project examples
