Summary
Implant Equipment Maintenance Technicians are responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on ion implant semiconductor manufacturing equipment within a cleanroom environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills, works effectively in a team setting, and supports continuous equipment performance improvement. Experience with Axcelis and Varian (Vista) implanters is highly desirable.
This is a factory-based position supporting the Implant equipment team and requires working in a cleanroom environment while wearing appropriate cleanroom attire and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on ion implant fab equipment
- Troubleshoot complex equipment issues, including Axcelis and Varian (Vista) implanters, and implement solutions to minimize recurring tool downtime
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of implant system functionality, subsystems, and fault isolation techniques
- Improve system performance to meet process specifications and increase tool uptime and reliability
- Monitor, analyze, and interpret tool performance data and alarms
- Recommend and implement improvements to maintenance procedures and practices
- Partner with engineers to support equipment qualifications, process changes, and improvement projects
- Clearly communicate equipment status during daily pass down meetings
- Provide clear, concise written documentation to engineers and technicians across shifts
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or military training preferred
- 3+ years of experience maintaining semiconductor manufacturing equipment (implant experience preferred)
- Proven troubleshooting skills in electrical, mechanical, vacuum, and pneumatic systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
- Experience working in a cleanroom environment and following strict safety protocols
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to work compressed workweek, night shift, or on-call support as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Axcelis ion implant systems (e.g., Purion platform)
- Experience with Varian (Vista) implanters or similar legacy implant platforms
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced fault isolation and root cause analysis on implant tools
- Familiarity with SPC, fault detection systems (FDC), and equipment automation systems
- Experience supporting tool installations, upgrades, and qualifications
- Continuous improvement mindset with a track record of increasing tool uptime and reliability
