A Liquor Store Associate (or Clerk/Sales Associate) is responsible for providing customer service, managing transactions, stocking shelves, and ensuring strict compliance with alcohol, beer, and wine regulations. This role requires high energy for a fast-paced environment and the ability to lift, carry, and arrange heavy merchandise.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Greeting guests, offering product recommendations, providing assistance, and carrying out products for customers.
- Compliance & Safety: Verifying IDs (often for anyone appearing under 30 or 40), ensuring legal age, denying sales to intoxicated individuals, and adhering to local/state regulations.
- POS Operations: Operating computerized point-of-sale systems, processing payments (cash, credit), and accurately managing cash drawers.
- Inventory & Merchandising: Stocking shelves, filling coolers, rotating products, unloading delivery trucks, and maintaining clean, organized displays.
- Store Maintenance: Cleaning floors, shelves, and restrooms; removing trash; and ensuring the store is safe and orderly.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Age: Must be at least 21 years old (required for selling alcohol in most jurisdictions).
- Experience: Retail or cashier experience is preferred, but many employers offer on-the-job training.
- Physical Ability: Ability to lift 30–50 lbs regularly, and occasionally up to 50-60 lbs.
- Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as these are peak times.
- Knowledge: Basic knowledge of wines, spirits, and beers is a plus.
