Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled CNC Set Up/Programmer to join our manufacturing team, dedicated to precision metal machining and high-quality production. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines—specifically CNC lathes and milling machines—including advanced 5-axis CNC equipment. Your expertise will ensure efficient machining processes, adherence to engineering specifications, and optimal tooling setups. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, proficiency with CAD/CAM software, and experience with various measurement tools to maintain the highest standards of quality and precision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up CNC machining equipment, including programming CNC lathes and CNC milling machines using Fanuc controls
- Interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) specifications to ensure accurate machining
- Develop and modify CNC programs utilizing CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent
- Select appropriate tooling and fixtures for machining operations, ensuring optimal performance and safety
- Perform precision measurements using bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), calipers, micrometers, and other measurement instruments to verify part accuracy
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to geometry, tooling wear, or machine calibration; implement corrective actions promptly
- Maintain detailed documentation of setup procedures, program revisions, and quality control reports
- Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize manufacturing processes following lean manufacturing principles
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain a clean work environment
Requirements
- Proven experience programming and setting up CNC machines such as CNC lathe and CNC milling machines
- Proficiency with Fanuc controls for machine operation and programming
- Strong knowledge of CAD software including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar engineering design tools
- Experience with CAM software for toolpath generation and CNC programming
- Familiarity with blueprint reading, GD&T standards, and schematic interpretation
- Mechanical aptitude with understanding of metal machining processes including electrical discharge machining (EDM)
- Ability to interpret mechanical blueprints accurately and select appropriate tooling
- Knowledge of measurement techniques using precision measuring instruments like bore gauges and coordinate measuring machines
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency
- Basic math skills necessary for geometric calculations in machining tasks
- Knowledge of schematics related to machine operation and tooling setup
